On Tuesday
22nd December 2009 17 teenagers from AYF went to Morrison's in Small
Heath to bag pack for the shoppers.
They were helping to raise money for
Betel
a
worldwide organisation dedicated to restoring broken lives, lives that
have been decimated often by alcohol and drug abuse. Gavin, our curate took the team by mini bus and a great day was
had by all.
Gavin has a close relationship with Betel and several from our church
family have visited their
Birmingham base and seen first hand the wonderful work they do.
This was a hard day's work for our teenagers, and we wish to say a huge
thank you to each person that went.
Here are
the names of those who gave up their day for others:
Ellie Grice, Jacob
Marklew, Isaac Watson, Amy Hill, Milli Standerwick, Emily Riley,
Savannah Cook
Grace Stanford, Alex
Harris, Emma Friend, Hannah Bright, Katie McDonald, Hannah Clay,
Matt Bryant, Stephen Arnold, Rachel Breen, Max Standerwick.
Here's what Gavin said about the
day: "Excellent day -
everyone was brilliant, bagging stuff up and chatting away to
customers and staff.
Everyone did well to keep going so cheerfully- there really was
lots of hard work.
There was some impromptu carol singing later on too
(click
here)- the
manager didn't seem to
mind! It was a very happy time.
Steve (from Betel) rang me when I got back to say very very firmly that he
and his colleague Dave both thought it had been a
great day
where they'd been specially blessed to be able to work with us -
they spoke very highly indeed about the YFers,
were very grateful for all our work and enthusiasm, and gave us
many thanks for helping to support Betel in this way.
And finally thanks for letting me loose with them all! What a
day. I love my job :-)"
