AYF
Camp Commitments 2009
Hi
all you lovely people!
Do hope
you are ok and enjoying our summer! This is Rob.
If you were one on the 20 people that decided on camp that you wanted to
turn to Christ and to follow Him for the rest of your life, this is for
you!.
During our camp God’s Holy Spirit spoke to you and called you to
Himself, and that’s called ‘making a commitment’ and in my opinion, is
the best decision you will ever take in your life.
Following
God is a great adventure and you are now safe in the knowledge that you
are a Christian and have all the benefits and joys of eternal life and
that no matter what the world may throw at you, you will endure if you
keep your focus on the living Lord Jesus Christ.
This is
what AYF is all about really and why we as leaders do what we do.
BUT
this is only the beginning, and to help you in your new relationship
with God, AYF wants to buy you a Bible, so that you can read it and
learn more about the Christian faith.
Bible notes (a help and a guide as to how to read it) are available from
say the Christian bookshop in St.Paul’s The Crossing, in Walsall, and
are highly recommended to help you understand what you are reading. Best
pop along when you can, have a look at what’s available and chose the
best one for you, as there are several to choose from.
Matt Emery also talked about them at squash last sunday and you can talk
to him about them as well.
Following
Christ isn’t always easy and we do fail sometimes, and one of the ways
satan tries to drag us down is to put doubt in our minds that we
actually are a
Christian.
DON’T BELIEVE THESE DOUBTS! They aren’t true! We worship a God
who longs to forgive and restore us to Himself, so if you’ve messed up,
just come into God’s presence again, and ask for forgiveness. YOU WILL
FIND IT! - because God is a God of the second, third, fourth etc chance.
Seek after
the spiritual gifts God wants you to have (you have at least one
already!) and ask Him to give you others!;
ask me if you want to know more, and I or any of the other YF leaders would love to pray with you.
OK, so
what happens now…..
Making a
commitment is just the beginning. We now need to learn more about God
and what He wants from you and for your life, and what’s best for you.
There are several ways to do that. Try to have a time in the day if you
can to read a bit of the Bible and to pray. When you first make a new
friend, conversations need to be had to get to know each other better,
and that’s just how it is with God.
Try coming
to church if you don’t already. We usually go to the 6.30pm service and
there are usually about 50+ AYFers there week by week.
Consider
coming to the squashes after church. This is a lovely way to keep in
touch and a time when you can learn more. There are squashes throughout
the summer even though there is no YF until 11th September
(Camp Slides Night)
Coming to
YF on a Friday is important too, as we encourage each other so much when
we are together, and we again learn from what’s said in the epilogues.
Lots of
other ways too, but that enough from me today!
I need to know from you what Bible you would like us to buy you. We have
two choices, as maybe you’ve got one already.
There is the Youth NIV Bible and The Message Bible. Both are excellent,
hard back. The Message is written in more contemporary language, ask
around if you aren’t sure.
Please drop me a mail or text me with the sort you want and I will
arrange.
Much love
to you and ‘well done’ in the choice you have made. Please get back to
me with any questions you may have and I will try to help.
