AYF Camp 2009

AYF canvas camp this year was from Saturday 25th July until Sunday 2nd August 2009, at our usual site in Rhossili,
on the Gower in South Wales. Our working party went down on Thursday 23rd July and for the first time
did a two day one because of the extra canvas that needs to be erected now.
This was our 35th year there, and we had just such an amazing time.

There were 130 of us altogether, and the weather at the start of our 8 days was shall we say somewhat mixed!
In fact we had a colossal amount of rain but managed (just) not to be forced home because of the wet conditions.
We did have some good days, and that meant the beach, where great times were enjoyed.
(All our teenagers showed immense YF camp spirit and made the very best of what were really bad conditions on site.)

For our QT groups we looked at Old Testament characters using a Facebook format and that worked really
well with our epilogue themes which looked at the promises of God.
God really used this camp again, and 20 teenagers decided to make a commitment of faith in Christ,
and to try to live by His standards.
Special message to those here

One very special moment was when we as a camp said farewell to Matt & Gemma Wallace.

Matt has been our youth coordinator for the past five years, and Gemma a voluntary youth leader.
Matt is going to train to become a vicar in the Church of England, which means a move to Bristol, so during what was
a very emotional time, each teenager had an opportunity to have their own special moment with them to say their farewells.
They have been exceptional leaders, and we are going to miss them so much.

Matt's last epilogue with us and on the last night of camp 2009 can be listen to here

Below are a few random pictures of our time away, many more will be available in due course in readiness
for our family film night at 7.30pm on 11th September 2009, when the whole family of YFers are invited
